News from Honduras!
The Holidays are quickly approaching, right? I hope you are all enjoying some cold weather in the States. The weather is cooler here, but it's not cold by any means. It's certainly hard to decorate my home for Christmas when its 65 degrees outside, but hey, I'm not complaining! Traveling back to the cold weather in Arkansas for a few weeks over Christmas will be hard, but seeing family and friends will be worth it! :)
Some of you may have heard the recent news, but I wanted to make sure that everyone knows:
Lord willing, meaning in His timing with his provisions, I have committed to teach here in Honduras for another year. This extends my time here until Summer of 2008. As you know, I have plans to be back this Christmas for a few weeks and I have scheduled some time to be back in the summer of 2007 for a few weeks before school starts for the 2007-2008 school year.
As always, I want to continue to thank EVERYONE for your support of prayer and finances. Without support of that kind, this mission would not be possible! I praise God daily for His provision for me to be here! I would ask that you begin to pray and seek the Lord as to if He would have you to continue to be involved in supporting this mission over the next year, beginning in June of 2007. Keep an eye out for letters from me about how you can continue to support this mission, through prayer and finances.

Here is a picture of Brayan, our 6th grade Spanish curriculum graduate for 2006. In Honduras, diploma's are given after 6th grade. In the picture, Brayan is folding the Honduran flag, which is part of the graduation ceremony! We are all so proud of his accomplishment!

the Word is critical to His will for us
from scripture:
"The words of wise men are like goads, and masters of these collections are like well-driven nails; but are given by one Shepard. But beyond this, my son, be warned the writing of many books is endless, and excessive deovtion to books is wearing to the body. The conclusion, when all has been heard is fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person."
Ecclesiastes 12:11-13
So, we are commanded to keep the word and walk with God, in His will, right?
"He who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and disclose myself to him."
John 14:21
So, if we have his commandments and keep them by obeying them, then he will disclose himself, and HIS WILL, to us, right?
"....if you continue in my word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free."
John 8:31-32
Again, same thing here, if we continue in the word, we will know the truth of the word, including His will, and then we will be free from worry or struggle about knowing His will or word.
And finally, a biblical example. Just this morning I was reading in Matthew, starting a Gospel to read during the Christmas and Thanksgiving holiday, and found that Joseph was instructed by the Holy Spirit, when he had decided to go about his own will and his own way, but, i think, because Joesph was a man of the Lord, and seeking Him, the Lord stepped in and had His will and way with Joseph. Look at Matthew chapter 1:
"Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying, 'Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.'"
Matthew 1:18-20
In this passage, Joseph is called a "righteous man" so we know that He was faithfully walking with the Lord. Joseph's plan was to send Mary away so that no one would know, BUT, after considering this, an angel came to him and told him the truth and, literally, the truth set him free from his worry and struggle about this.
Our God is good. We serve an amazing God who knows every detail of our lives and interacts and speaks to us when we have His word, are in His word, and consult His word for everthing.
Praise God for His word!

food for thought: Isaiah 10:13-15
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
"Is the axe to boast itself over the one who chops with it? Is the saw to exalt itself over the one who wields it? That would be like a club wielding those who lift it, or like a rod lifting him who is not wood."

i have decided, again
to make the the most of every moment! why does it always take something bad or hard to remind us to appreciate the good times? why does it take death or someone special leaving for us to be reminded that we should CHERISH each moment we have with EVERYONE?
i vow, once again, to try to make the most of every opportunity to reach out, love people and enjoy life with those that i love. i vow to increase the number of those that i cherish and love so that i don't have to have a feeling of regret, but can continue to increase my joy with those in my presence!

a few crazy hours
These past few hours here in Honduras have been interesting. We went into the city on Wednesday night to honor a teacher who has fulfilled her time here and is leaving us on Saturday, Debra. She will be missed, daily!
All day on Wednesday, it rained, a lot! ALL DAY! So, on our way back to the Ranch, there is a small river that we have to pass through. Usually it is passable, no big deal. Well, that day the rain was so hard and continuous that the "little" river was much higher than usually. The car in front of us made it through just fine. Well, we were in a Jeep, and we were afraid of flooding the engine. We really had very few options, so we went for it. The water reached the top of the tires, but PRAISE God we made it through!
So, last night, Thursday night, well actually Thursday afternoon, the electricity went out - so we were running on a generator all afternoon and night. We had to cut off the generator before we went to bed. We made a fire outside and roasted marshmallows and enjoyed each others company until late in the night. Memorable times!
So, today..... my girls and I were walking up the school road, and there were several classes walking the opposite direction as us, as well as our principal, she was driving the opposite way of us. Miss Angela and her class stopped to talk to us for a few minutes, and next thing I know, this HUGE branch falls from the tree, and hits the ground .... literally 10 feet from us! If Angela and her class did not stop and talk to us, my girls and I would have been DIRECTLY under that branch and probably hurt very badly! Just on the other side of where the branch fell, our principal was in her car coming toward us - she was also about 10 feet from the branch! So, she missed the branch as well. We stopped right there, all of us, and gave thanks up to our Lord and Savior Jesus through prayer! PRAISE HIM! All I know is that God takes care of His people and by his divine will and providence. He kept us from that branch! Both of us, ALL OF US, my class and our principal. Praise Him for the direct ways that He cares for His people!

Culture Day: Greece!
GREECE
Today was Culture Day at school! (Eleni has been sick all week, so she's missing from the photo.) We have been studying Greece over the past month. We learned about the food (Gyros), art, culture, language, religion (95% Greek Orthodox) and the history of the country.
Today we celebrated all of the different cultures that everyone in the school studied. In my class, dressed up in our Togas (from Ancient Greece) and made Gyros for everyone to eat.
We decorated our room with the Greek flag, the Parthenon, a map of Greece and the Greek Alphabet.

alpha, beta, gamma, delta, episilon .... etc
