My time here in the States for Christmas 2006 is almost up. I am ready to go back. I miss the kids and I miss the pace of life in Honduras! I am ready for school to get started. The Lord has blessed me and refreshed me in my time here.

I am so grateful to have time to see all my family and friends. Each of you have been such an encouragement to me. I am more full than when I came in early December. Each of you have taken time to fill me back up. You may not even realize the things that you have done to invest in me in my time here.

I am excited to go back because:
• I miss the kids
• I miss my friends there
• The weather is awesome there and the fruit is fresh!
• I'm ready to hear Wilmer say "Miss Chelito Miss Chelito Miss Chelito"

• Sadly, I miss the bumpy roads and praying over the communities as we drive through that area
• I miss giving to the boys on the road on Sundays

• I'm ready to see Sergio's excitement when I bring him more PS2 games from the States
Kensey will like my new "liplop"
• I'm ready for a new challenge in cards with Jen, Steve, Ron and Tammy!

I'm not ready to leave because:
• I'm going to miss all of Julie's wedding planning
• High speed Internet is so NICE!
• i enjoy the nice, civilized roads with lines and stop lights that mean something
Walmart and the grocery store are only a 10 minute drive!

December: Feliz Navidad

‘Tis the best season! Christmas is one of my most favorite times of the year. I like to start listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving. As a Christian, celebrating the birth of my Savior brings great joy to my heart! It also reminds me of the need that I have for Him and His grace and mercy. This season I am reading through the book of Matthew to remember the perfect life that Christ lived. I am reminded of the joyful life that He offers–a joy that the world can not get close to fulfilling!

Before I get too much into talking about Holidays, let me tell you about the end of our school year. On November 17 we graduated our 6th grader, Brayan. (In Honduras, government supported schooling is offered through the 6th grade and diplomas are given to all graduates of the 6th grade.) We had a graduation ceremony, where Brayan folded the flag took an oath. We are very proud of Brayan. He worked very hard to meet all of the graduation requirements.

As for my class, we ended very strong. I have five students, two of which made the “A/B” Honor Roll and one made the “A” Honor Roll! I am so proud! We only had 3 C’s, total! This is a huge improvement overall! Thanks to everyone that has been praying for the academic wealth of my students, as well as my instruction as their teacher. I can say with confidence that this semester was successful!

For one week after school was over, I hosted an optional art class for those kids that were interested. I had a good turn out, and some hidden talent was discovered. We learned to draw a still-life, the face and how to water color. As a young artist, I was encouraged to pursue my talent and desire for art. I want to do the same for the kids here that have artistic talent.

So, back to the Holidays! As a Ranch family, we celebrated Thanksgiving with a Ranch-wide potluck-style dinner on Thanksgiving Thursday. We had a variety of foods including the typical stuffing, cranberries and pumpkin pie. On “Black Friday,” (when all of you were braving the sales at the malls) I was cooking another Thanksgiving dinner here at the Ranch, with out electricity!! That’s right, all of the teachers enjoyed another Thanksgiving meal on Friday, and Tammy and I cooked every part of it without electricity. We do have gas stoves, so that made the cooking a bit easier. We had turkey, mashed potatoes, corn casserole, stuffing, biscuits, gravy, cranberries, pumpkin desert and apple pie! Needless to say, we are still eating left overs!

Now that school is over, I have had time to work on several ongoing projects. Since my graphic design talent has become known, I have been asked to take on several projects. I enjoying doing design. When I am not teaching or playing with the kids, I am usually working on some project. Currently, I am working on composing a Ranch-wide cookbook. This cookbook will include recipes from each home as well as recipes from Casa Grande where our week long mission teams stay. These recipe books will be for sale soon.

We are currently looking for more North American teachers to join our team of teachers for the new school year to begin in July of 2007. If you know of anyone that is interested in teaching and missions, feel free to pass on this name and email address: Alan Sims (asims@wgoreach.org).

Also, if you have had a change of address since April, please reply to me with your new address.

I will be in Arkansas and Missouri for the Christmas. I hope to be able to see most of you. If you have a free minute and would like to catch up, I would enjoy time to get together. I am preparing a slide show presentation for any that are interested. I have a lot of great stories and photos that I am anxious to share!

Until then, continue in prayer over this mission and this place. This month won’t you pray the preaching of Paul:

“For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? For we are not, like many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.”
2 Corinthians 2:15-17

Pray this with trust that the Lord will use Christ in me as a sweet aroma to those that do not know Him. Pray also that Christ will shine through me to those that know Him but need encouragement and an example of living the faith walk with Christ by accepting His grace and mercy as we go walk in this fallen world.

Trusting Him-

Shelly

Your Hands Extended

Through your continual spiritual and financial support the Lord has made this mission possible. Without the prayers of each one of you and the sacrifice that you have made financially, I would not be here. I thank God for you and your heart for mission and desire to bring hope and a future to Honduras though the ministry of World Gospel Outreach and using me as a mere tool.

I want thank you again for allowing me to be your hands extended. Remember, you are just as much a part of this mission as me. I am your hands extended. I want to give all praise, glory and thanks to our Lord for some ways in which he used our hands this year. Join me in thanks for:

• Feeding the hungry: through the
pantry at church and personally
giving food to the poor and hungry
on the streets.
• Establishing relationships with my
girls and building the character of
Christ in those that are accepting.
• Planting seeds of education and
giving these abandoned children
hope for the future.
• Grace given so that I can model
the character of Christ that was
modeled for me as a young child.
